If so, the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) invites you to apply to its Open Call and spend 5 or 10 months in Amsterdam, immersed in an interdisciplinary community that values curiosity-driven research in the humanities, social sciences and beyond.
Why NIAS?
Founded in the 1970s, NIAS was the first institute for advanced study in continental Europe to embrace interdisciplinarity and international collaboration. At a time when academia was siloed and national in scope, NIAS brought together scholars from different disciplines and countries to rethink boundaries – a mission it continues to uphold.
Who should apply?
NIAS seeks scholars who are willing to ask bold questions, challenge conventional thinking, and engage deeply with their research and each other. This is more than a research institute – it is a place where you can experience, learn, and help protect academic freedoms.
