Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship

The Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship Foundation was set up in 2007 in honour of Willem F. Duisenberg. The Foundation is supported by De Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch Ministry of Finance and several major Dutch financial institutions: the ING Group, Rabobank Nederland, ABN-AMRO and AEGON. The call for proposals for the academic year 2026 - 2027 is open until 17 March 2025, 12.00h CET (noon).

Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship

The Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship offers researchers in the field of applied monetary economics, macroeconomics, macroeconomic policy, public finance or public finance policy an opportunity to pursue their own research, to work in an interdisciplinary environment and to share their knowledge with society. Researchers carry out their research project as a member of the NIAS interdisciplinary academic community and have the opportunity to meet with Dutch academics, policy makers and representatives of financial institutions. The working language at NIAS is English. Applicants must have a good command of English to contribute effectively to the fellows group and receive input on their own research.

For whom is this fellowship intended?

For researchers from the Netherlands or abroad who have an outstanding record in the field of applied monetary economics, macro-economics or public finance.

How to apply?

From 2007 until 2022 the Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship was a fellowship for researchers with an outstanding record by invitation only. As of 2023, as part of NIAS’ and the Duisenberg Foundation’s efforts to strive for a more inclusive academia, all economists with more than 3 years post Ph.D. academic experience can apply.

Board

The Willem F. Duisenberg Fellowship (WFDF) Foundation Board consists of:

  • Chair: Prof.drs. Victor Halberstadt

To our great regret, Victor Halberstadt passed away on 13 September 2024. He had chaired the board of the W.F. Duisenberg Foundation of NIAS-KNAW since its formal establishment in 2007. Prior to that, he had been involved with the predecessor of this foundation for many years. His dedication and commitment will be greatly missed.

  • Treasurer: Prof.dr. Jan Willem Duyvendak (Director NIAS)
  • Board member: Mr. Joanne Kellermann

The WFDF Foundation Board members do not receive remuneration. The WFDF Foundation has no employees; administrative and organisational support is provided by NIAS.
