L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship (FWiS)

The Dutch L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship program stimulates the scientific careers of talented young women in Life Sciences and STEM with the aim of increasing the number of women professors in Netherlands in the long run. The call will be open from 15 January to 28 February 2025 for fellowships starting in September 2025 or February 2026.

About the FWiS Fellowships

Despite women achieving the highest levels of academic qualifications at an increasing rate, they remain underrepresented in senior scientific research roles. In the Netherlands, women still make up less than 30% of professors.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowships aim to address this persistent gender imbalance in academia by fostering a more inclusive environment and supporting the growth of future women leaders in science.

Designed for women researchers in Life Sciences or STEM disciplines with 3–10 years of post-PhD experience, the programme provides a unique opportunity to focus exclusively on advancing their research for a semester. Hosted at NIAS in Amsterdam, fellows join an international academic community, benefiting from interdisciplinary collaboration with scholars from the humanities and social sciences. Freed from administrative, clinical, and teaching responsibilities, participants can make significant strides in their research while engaging in dynamic intellectual exchange. The working language at NIAS is English. Applicants must have a good command of English to contribute effectively to the fellows group and receive input on their own research.
