The Citizenship of the Non-Citizen: Undocumented Politics and Belonging a World City
Project Description
The core question of the proposed project is: how does (and how might) Amsterdam give shape to the citizenship of the non-citizen? In order to examine this, the project will combine theories of performative citizenship and urban belonging with qualitative field research (interviews & participant-observation) in the municipality and with migrant rights organizations. The project will analyze developments in Amsterdam from an international perspective that compares the inclusion of undocumented migrants as political actors in Dutch city to New York and Berlin.
