Borders and the Transfer of Knowledge
Project Description
I will study translation processes in a German Missionary Journal “Der Neue Welt-Bott” that came out from 1726-1759. My research will focus on its first editor, the Jesuit Joseph Stöcklein, and on his translation and re-writing of missionary reports from all over the world. Specifically, how are the maps and images inserted by Stöcklein and how does this reflect and comment knowledge about the world?
