Translation Techniques in Armenian and Syriac

Year Group 1997/98

Theme group sharing expertise on translation techniques in Oriental and Western languages.

About the theme group

The theme group “Translation Techniques in Armenian and Syriac” will study the translation of a number of texts in Oriental languages, concentrating on the De Natura (in Armenian) and on the Physiologus, which is extant in a range of Oriental and Western languages, as well as in Armenian. The investigation of these works, will serve to clarify certain general questions relating to translation methods and techniques in late antiquity and the early-medieval period in the East.

A second goal is to prepare an exemplary electronic text edition of the De Natura.
