During my stay at NIAS I studied the periodisation of the Armenian, so called Philhellene, translations: a group of extremely literal renderings of theological and philosophical texts from Greek. I succeeded in placing such translations into a new perspective, using earlier work of S. Brock and J.P. Mahé. A new classification approach allows us to establish the relative chronology of, in particular, the versions of Philo and Dionysius Thrax more exactly. The net gain of this approach is a more coherent picture of the literary developments in the sixth and seventh centuries.
