Seminar - How Are Educational Systems Functioning?

How can we distinguish good schools from bad schools? And how do educational systems differ between countries? Sociologist Herman van de Werfhorst will answer these questions in a NIAS seminar on 23 May.

 

About the Seminar

“In this seminar I will discuss with the audience (1) on which characteristics educational systems differ between countries; and (2) on which outcomes we would wish to judge whether schools in our systems are functioning well. Then, I will show some results on my NIAS project, studying various relevant dimensions of educational systems and relevant outcomes of assessment. We can then further debate how my results stand in relation to what the audience has proposed as relevant dimensions and outcomes.”

NIAS Seminars are organised by the Rector of the Institute. They are meant to appeal to interested parties from a wide range of backgrounds and are aimed to encourage closer contact within the Dutch academic world.
