Maria Koinova, NIAS Fellow 2011/12, recipient of a ERC Starting Grant

Maria Koinova, who is a member of the NIAS research theme group “The Real and the Imagined in the Contemporary Balkans” was awarded a Starting Grant by the European Research Council in September 2011. ERC Starting Grants are intended for early-career top researchers of any nationality and age, with 2 to 12 years of experience after Ph.D. to carry out their pioneering research. The funding consists of up to € 2 million per grant for up to five years. The success rate this year was 12%.

Maria Koinova received the grant for her project “Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty: Transnational Diaspora Mobilization in Europe and Its Impact on Political Processes in the Balkans, the Caucasus and the Middle East”.
