Opening Academic Year 2021/22

The Opening of the Academic Year 2021/22 will take place on 8 September in-person and online.

You are warmly invited to join us for the 2021/22 Opening of the Academic Year online or in-person on the 8 September 2021.

This is a special year for NIAS as we celebrate our 50 Anniversary as well as 50 years of Academic Freedom. Celebrate that for fifty years NIAS has been providing an intellectual haven for scholars, where they are free to pursue their curiosity-driven research.

NIAS Director, Prof Jan Willem Duyvendak will stress the necessity of maintaining academic freedom to nourish innovation in science.

We also welcome a special guest Nadia Al-Bagdadi, Director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Central European University and former President (2018-2021) of the Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study.

Alumna Hagar Peeters, Writer-in-residence 2019/20  will read her short story, and 2021/22 Fellows will be there in person for the 3-minute presentations, followed by networking drinks.

Please register for the event to attend in person or to receive the viewing link.

As the venue capacity is limited, please let us know if you cannot make it by mailing events@nias.knaw.nl
