We will start by reflecting on a unique year, which opened with discussions on academic pressure, on the COVID-19 pandemic radically impacting our lives and on ongoing discussions about inequality.
But these events also led the way to change, and we discovered our agility. The need to slow down science became apparent, researchers had to change their approach and even reformulate their research questions during the pandemic. We started discussing and implementing measures to address academic inequality.
Against this background, the work of the 2020/21 fellows group is more important than ever. Humanities and social sciences offer us perspectives into our new reality and question the acceptance of continuing-as-before. During the Opening of the Academic Year some researchers will present what they intend to explore at NIAS, and their research exemplifies the interdisciplinary approach NIAS advocates.
We hope you can join us in person or live as in-person spaces are limited due to social distancing guidelines. Let us know if you’re interested in joining the programme by e-mailing to email@example.com. Deadline to register is Wednesday 26 August.
