Research at NIAS is carried out by a year-group of international scholars who spend either three, five or ten months working on a research project of their own choosing. By offering scholars the academic freedom to pursue a topic in more depth while providing opportunities to interact and exchange ideas and methodologies from a wide variety of disciplines, NIAS hopes to facilitate new research paths and encourage lasting cooperation.


About thirty Fellows are working on the topic of their choice - ranging from crafting a monograph to programming software and writing grant proposals. Here we offer a glimpse of what they are cooking up at NIAS:
