Call Now Open: Writer-in-residence NIAS-KNAW

The Dutch Foundation for Literature and NIAS-KNAW invite publishers and others to nominate a writer for the writer-in-residence fellowship at NIAS-KNAW in Amsterdam for the academic year 2020/21. This prestigious position is intended for a writer who is working on a project that would benefit from an extended stay as part of a diverse community of international scholars. Nominations can be submitted before 16 March (noon).

The writer-in-residence programme is a joint initiative by NIAS-KNAW and the Dutch Foundation for Literature (Nederlands Letterenfonds). For the academic year 2020/21, they offer two fellowships: one for a Dutch writer (September 2020 until February 2021), and one for a writer from abroad (February until July 2021).

Dutch Writer

Candidates should have an established literary presence and/or excellent publication record and a project proposal that clearly benefits from a NIAS stay and the exchange of ideas with scholars from the humanities, social sciences and other disciplines. The candidate is expected to have excellent English speaking skills so that they can fully participate in the international setting at NIAS-KNAW.

Writer from Abroad

The same requirements apply for candidates from abroad as for Dutch candidates, with the additional requirement that they must have already had work, translated into Dutch, published by a Dutch publisher. Candidates can be nominated by publishers, literary agents, translators and organisers of literary festivals.

The writer-in-residence from abroad is offered a stipend of 2,600 euro per month, an international return ticket, a personal office and studio accommodation in the centre of Amsterdam against subsidized rate.
