Henry G. Schermers Fellowship
In 2008 the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL) and NIAS established the Henry G. Schermers Fellowship Programme. The programme aims at providing research fellowships to prominent scholars conducting research in the field of legal justice. The programme concluded in 2016.
The programme is named after the great legal scholar H.G. Schermers (1928 – 2006), Professor of Law of International Organisations at Leiden University from 1978 to 2002. He tirelessly worked to make norms of international law a reality in national legal systems.
HiiL (The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law) is a social enterprise devoted to user-friendly justice. That means justice that is easy to access, easy to understand, and effective. HiiL will ensure that by 2030, 150 million people will be able to prevent or resolve their most pressing justice problems. They do this by stimulating innovation and scaling what works best. They are friendly rebels focused on concrete improvements in the lives of people. Data and evidence are central in all that we do. HiiL is an equal opportunity, international employer. They are based in The Hague, City of Peace and Justice.
