Political Autocracy and Academic Freedom

An Afternoon With Paul Krugman

The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) is proud to announce a public lecture featuring Nobel laureate Paul Krugman – one of the world’s most renowned economists and the prolific author of influential publications on international trade and tariffs, industrial agglomeration and the new economic geography, and welfare distribution and the wellbeing society.

In recent years, he has been actively engaged in debates on U.S. trade policy as well as the autonomy of scientific research. Since May 2025, he has held a part-time affiliation with Erasmus University Rotterdam. In September 2025, he will return to the Netherlands for a series of public events.

As a strong advocate for academic freedom and a beacon of independent thought, NIAS is proud to announce that Professor Paul Krugman will deliver a public lecture at the Royal Academy as part of the NIAS Lecture Series.
