"The collaborative approach to knowledge generation is refreshing"

“I would strongly encourage anyone who thrives on collective study to consider submitting a proposal for a Theme Group at NIAS — our own Theme Group on Legal Mobilization will take place this year, focusing on Legal Mobilization, also involving 4 wonderful colleagues.

Apart from the rare opportunity to immerse yourself, free of other obligations, in your own research projects, this collaborative approach to knowledge generation is a refreshing change from the hyper-individualism that is, sadly, so typical of academia, and (in my view) ultimately corrosive at intellectual, societal and personal levels.”

Handmaker is Senior Lecturer in Law, Human Rights and Development at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
