New Rector at NIAS

On the 1st of November 2013, Aafke Hulk resigns as Rector of NIAS. She will be succeeded by Paul Emmelkamp.

On the 1st of November 2013, Aafke Hulk resigns as Rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Aafke Hulk’s decision to hand in her notice was driven by her express wish to have enough time for academic research and the realization that this would be impossible in combination with the challenging task of leading NIAS through the change and renewal process that is planned for the KNAW’s humanities institutes. The Board of the KNAW respects this decision and is grateful for her efforts over the last few years. She encouraged NIAS to excel academically and, at the same time, made organizational improvements. In doing so she laid the foundation for the important transition that NIAS must make as it becomes embedded within the Cluster of KNAW Humanities Institutes in Amsterdam.

Aafke Hulk will be succeeded by Paul Emmelkamp, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, and currently Chair of the NIAS Scholarly Committee. Paul Emmelkamp has been appointed Interim-Rector of NIAS.
