Goossen van der Wal, born in Sneek, the Netherlands, in 1934. Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Professor of Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Subject of research were certain aspects of the problem of a morality of international relations. In that connection the focus has been especially on the concept of a moral community and its application to the international scene and on the communitarian aspects of the concept of human right. A second line of research was devoted to questions in the field of environmental ethics.
