F. de Jong, born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1944. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Associate Professor of Arabic Studies at Leiden University.

I worked on a book on Islamic mystical brotherhoods in 20th century Egypt entitled The Sufi Orders in post-Ottoman Egypt, 1911-1980, as well as on a book on the history of the Bektashi sect in Egypt and the Balkan after 1826.
