Martin Everaert, born in Surabaya, Indonesia, in 1953. Ph.D. from Utrecht University. Associate Professor of Linguistics at the Research Institute for Language and Speech, Utrecht University.

Fellow (1 February 1997 – 30 June 1997)

As a member of the theme group “An Encyclopaedia of Syntactic Case Studies” I was committed to writing five case studies for the Syntax Companion (SynCom). These were: Condition C Violations/Condition D and Strong Crossover; Idioms; Impersonal Passives; Have/Be Distinction; Switch Reference and Obviation. Given the limited time available and the additional duties as a group co-ordinator I restricted my work to two cases: Idioms and Have/Be Distinction. I did bibliographical research on Impersonal Passives and Switch Reference and Obviation.
