Econometrics for Dummies

with Applications to Banking

Laura Spierdijk analyses why U.S. banks of different scale survive in the same market despite the presence of scale economies by assessing the relation between scale effects, bank size, productivity and market power in the U.S. banking sector.

About the Seminar

“In this seminar I will start with a short non-technical introduction to econometrics: what do econometricians do, what is the difference between econometrics and statistics and what are the type of questions that econometricians try to answer? I will make use of several examples to answer these and other questions. After the introduction, I will turn to my own research on banking. I will explain what topics I have been working on during my stay here at NIAS and what I will be working on in the future.”
