Annual NIAS Lecture 2021

The Annual NIAS Lecture 2020 "An Imagined Past; The Politics of History Making" will take place in April 2021.

The Annual NIAS Lecture 2020 “An Imagined Past; The Politics of History Making” would have taken place in Pakhuis de Zwijger on 29 April 2020 in Amsterdam. Since the Covid-19 pandemic has made us stay indoors, we have been exploring the possibilities to move the programme online. However, the NIAS-event team believes that the face-to-face interaction cannot be replicated digitally, so we will postpone the full event to April 2021.The programme will remain promising with a great line-up of speakers:

Christophe Bertossi, Director of the Centre for Migrations and Citizenship at the French Institute for International Relations

Femke Halsema, Mayor of the City of Amsterdam

Jennifer Tosch, Initiator of Black Heritage Tours in Amsterdam and New York, co-founder of the Sites of Memory Foundation and member of the Mapping Slavery Project in the Netherlands

The exact date and time will be announced at a later stage.

On behalf of the NIAS-event team,

Jan Willem Duyvendak, Director, and Fenneke Wekker, Head of Academic Affairs
