ISLAM IN TURKEY: LINKING THE PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SPHERES OF RELIGIOSITY

During the first half of my stay at NIAS, I mostly focused on reading and the methodological retooling of several topics that I would like to concentrate on in the future. I also worked on the final preparations of a large face-to-face survey on religiosity, subjective well-being and health in Turkey. In the second half of my stay, after completing this fieldwork, I worked on the dataset obtained and carried out the main analyses, and wrote an extensive final report of this project for the funding agency, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). All in all, I have completed six articles and have three more in first draft form. I have had two special issue proposals approved by international journals due in the next two years; rewrote my book proposal for my NIAS project; and finished more than half of its analysis and writing. I have finalised and proofread one book manuscript, undertaken nine presentations, attended six workshops/conferences, continued the supervision of five Ph.D. students and refereed eight articles for international journals. In a normal year without the quiet and supportive environment of NIAS only a fraction of this would have been possible.
