During my stay at NIAS, I participated in the Orality and Literacy group. I studied several aspects of music performed between 800 and 1100: a) forms of repetition and the role of repetition as a performance device and as an aid for memory in oral tradition, and b) the growing need for music notation and its gradual introduction into performance practice
