Christian Lange on Senses in Islam
Christian Lange, Professor of Islam and Arabic at Utrecht University, was awarded a Consolidator Grant for his project SENSIS (‘The senses in Islam’). The aim of SENSIS is to write a cultural history of the senses in Islam, by examining how over the centuries the senses have been conceptualised, and calibrated, in a variety of Muslim literary traditions: the legal literature, Islamic philosophy and theology, and Arabic and Persian poetry. Chris Petkov
Chris Petkov, Professor in in Comparative Neuropsychology at Newcastle University Medical School, received the ERC Consolidator Grant for his project MECHIDENT, in which he will examine human neural networks and mechanisms for identifying individuals. Petkov will be at NIAS from April to June as part of the NIAS-Lorentz Theme Group on the comparative biology of language learning.
ERC Consolidator Grants
The ERC Consolidator Grants are awarded to outstanding researchers of any nationality and age, with at least seven and up to 12 years of experience after PhD, and a scientific track record showing great promise. The funding (maximum of €2 million per grant), is provided for up to five years.
