What can you do?
Donations to the NIAS Solidarity Fund, NIAS fellowships in general, or to a specific NIAS fellowship of your choice are most welcome. You can help by supporting:
- The NIAS Solidarity Fund
NIAS works on realising equitable participation of all fellows in our community of inspiration. For equity is not self-evident. All fellows are offered the same stipend and emoluments. But some require specific extras, such as childcare (particularly if they are single parents), individual transport if they are physically challenged, mental health care if they suffer from trauma, or topping up their stipend to cover the continuing costs of daily life of the family they left behind.
- NIAS Solidarity Fund: fellows for fellows
All starting NIAS fellows are introduced to the NIAS Solidarity Fund and we kindly request fellows to consider (partially — even very, very partially) waiving their own stipend in order to foster a fellows’ community in which all fellows can participate and benefit.
- Help fund Safe Haven Fellowships
We specifically ask attention for our much needed NIAS Safe Haven Fellowships. These are awarded to renowned as well as talented researchers, who are in danger from armed conflict or political violence. These are ‘Blue Sky’ fellowships, meaning that they are not labelled with a specific theme. If you share our conviction that the autonomous curiosity of all excellent researchers is to be cherished- especially when circumstances are difficult, and you believe that the unexpected and the unsolicited should be valued, support our fellows by making a donation.
- Donate to a fellowship
You may want to support a fellowship which reflects your own professional field or interest, or even better: support NIAS fellowships in general. During a period of one or two semesters, selected talented individuals and experienced researchers can work at NIAS with a minimum of interruption by external obligations and are free to challenge boundaries, explore detours, deviate from the status quo and to approach intellectual confrontation head on. These researchers are given the time and space to focus on any subject. Their curiosity and experience guarantees commitment to global or local urgencies. ‘Blue Sky’ also goes for the flagship NIAS Fellowships. These are awarded to projects of excellent academic merit, that are difficult to fit into other funding schemes and priorities.
