E-LEARNING: A CHALLENGE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING IN THE ERA OF KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY

The main goal of the project was to write a book called “E-learning – an educational challenge in the era of the knowledge society”. The general framework for my discussion of e-learning was provided by theoretical concepts describing contemporary society (knowledge society, networked society) and the concept of lifelong learning. The core of the book focuses on the educational use of modern technologies in teaching and learning. Attention is paid not only to technologies but primarily to human learning and learning styles. In the conclusion, I use an analysis of a range of Czech and international studies to answer the questions whether we are really ready to use e-learning, or, in other words, whether people are sufficiently motivated to learn and whether they can adequately use modern technologies in the various forms of education; and where potential barriers to the use of e-learning are. The results are then interpreted in the context of the theoretical framework of the whole book.
