THE EUROPEAN UNION, GLOBAL GOVERNANCE AND INTERNATIONAL LAW

While at NIAS I made good progress in working out a number of aspects of the book project “The European Union, Global Governance and International Law”. I finalised various papers that are directly linked to this project and that have been accepted by prestigious international journals. I also did a great amount of research on the implications of the recent entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon for the external relations of the EU, and developed some of the initial findings in a co-authored article on the 2009 Russian-Ukrainian Gas Dispute. These latter findings will be published in the European Foreign Affairs Review. I devoted much attention to the study of the interactions between the EU and international law, on which I also developed new research proposals. Last but not least, I gave various lectures at Dutch universities and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and had many interesting interactions with experts in my areas of expertise.
