Wesseling, H.L.

Henk Wesseling, born in The Hague, the Netherlands, in 1937. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of Contemporary History at Leiden from 1973 to 2002 and Rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) from 1995 to 2002.

Honorary Fellow (1 September 2002 – 30 June 2003)

During the first year of my Honorary Fellowship two tasks demanded most of my attention. The first was the completion of my book Europa’s koloniale eeuw which came out in the Spring of 2003, and the second was the preparation of the English version of that same book, ‘The European Colonial Empires 1815-1919’, which will be published in the Spring in 2004. I also continued to work on two other projects: a book with the provisional title “France at War, 1870-1962”, and a history of the Scheffer-Renan-Psichari family.
