The main topic of my research during my stay at NIAS was that of creolization and second language acquisition, with particular reference to tense, modality and aspect (TMA). The focus of my study has been the history of some English-related Creole languages, in the light of the debate concerning substrate influence versus linguistic universals in creole genesis.
