THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE SOVIET BLOC – A CASE-STUDY OF POLAND

During my research stay at NIAS I worked on my post-doctoral project: “The Social Impact of Computer Technologies in the Soviet Bloc – a Case-study of Poland”. Five month research stay helped me to prepare three separate academic articles related to my project, which already have been or soon will be submitted to academic journals and edited volumes. One of my articles will be published in a monograph “European Hacker Cultures” by Amsterdam University Press in late 2012.With my submissions I continue my bonds with the research project “Inventing Europe” run by the Eindhoven University of Technology which was also a research theme group at NIAS in 2010/11. I spent a significant amount of time on editing my own volume “Bootleg Socialism” on media economies in Eastern Europe which will be published in late 2012. As a member of the Fellows Committee I helped to organize academic seminars run by other fellows.
