Jeanine Treffers-Daller, born in Kaban Djahe, Indonesia, in 1959. Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Assistant Professor at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul.

Fellow (1 February 1996 – 30 June 1996)

During my stay at NIAS I continued analysing the corpus of spontaneous recordings and picture stories of Turkish-German bilinguals collected until now in Turkey and Germany, and I gave several presentations about my work at NIAS and at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen.

Furthermore I could collect additional data among a control group in Germany. Together with colleagues from other universities I worked on syntactic complexity and vocabulary richness in Turkish picture stories of different groups of bilingual and monolingual informants.

I also made a preliminary comparison between the data I collected in Brussels and those which I collected in the framework of my present study, especially with respect to switches of prepositional phrases and prepositions in these corpora.

Finally I had the opportunity to familiarise myself with the CHAT transcription system, which is generally used in child language acquisition, and which is now being adapted for transcription of code-switching data.
