ART AND THEATRE IN THE HOLOCAUST AS A WAY TO SURVIVE AND RESIST

During April to June 2009, I was a visiting grant scholar with the project “Art and Theater during the Holocaust”. Thanks to the rich library, very friendly staff and cordial atmosphere at NIAS, my fellowship was extremely fruitful. I finished an article and a review in the area of genocide studies and on the status of Soviet prisoners of war in the Nazi concentration camps. I collected materials and the bibliography for my project on Jewish art during the Holocaust, and had the opportunity to take part in interdisciplinary discussions in different areas of Humanities. I also visited various Dutch museums to learn about the specifics of Dutch memory about World War II which were reflected in many museum expositions. This fellowship was an excellent way to increase my professional skills and to establish international contacts.
