Evert van der Starre, born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1935. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of French Literature at Leiden University. († 2004)

Fellow (1 September 1980 – 31 July 1981)

My research focused on three writers of the so-called ‘Nouveau-roman’ (new novel) in France, Marguerite Duras, Robert Pinget and Nathalie Sarraute. All of them wrote for the theatre and my purpose was to try and discover why these three authors ventured into the theatre and whether the experience had any effect on their later work.
