DIVINE GRACE IN THE AGE OF LIBERALISM: TRACTATRIANS REDISCOVERING AUGUSTINE
While at NIAS in the academic year 2008/9, I was a member of the focus group on the reception of Augustine between 1600 and 2000, lead by Prof. Karla Pollmann and Prof. Peter Liebregts. My contribution to the “Oxford Guide for the Historical Reception of Augustine” consisted of five articles (on Grace, Cambridge Platonism, Arminianism, Pierre Bayle and William Ames). I also prepared an article on the reception of Augustine in John Henry Newman’s theory of justification. Further, I participated in many of the meetings of the other focus group organised at NIAS by Prof. Karl Enenkel and Prof. Reindert Falkenburg on discourses of meditation and self-reflection between 1300 and 1600. In addition to that, I participated in three international conferences organised at NIAS – one by each of the two reasearch groups and yet another one organised by Prof. H.F.J. Horstmanshoff. I will contribute articles to the acts of these conferences.
