Norval Smith, born in Glasgow, UK, in 1946. Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam.

Fellow (1 September 1985 – 31 July 1986)

Within my Creole language research, two main projects were carried out: 1) the first involved the completion of my thesis ‘The genesis of the Creole languages of Surinam’ and 2) the second involved the completion of a long article written jointly with Ian Robertson on ‘The Ijo element in Berbice Dutch’. Furthermore, research was carried out into nonlinear phonology.
