During a very pleasant and inspiring year at NIAS I wrote a first draft of four chapters for a book on state formation 1663-1730 within the realm of Cochin, Kerala, India. Next I participated in the work of the theme group ‘In Memoriam J.C. van Leur: On the Eighteenth Century as a Category in Asian History’
