Thomas Rosenboom, born in Doetinchem, the Netherlands, in 1956. from the University of Amsterdam. Independent writer.
Writer-in-Residence (1 September 2006 – 31 January 2007)
As an independent writer without a regular job who normally works alone, it was special to be among other people who were busy with their writings. It was good to walk every morning to the main building, saying hello and then going into my office to work, just as everybody else did: after a while it seemed that I had colleagues, and a very good thing for me was that I could match up with their daily rhythm. Because of this structure, much stronger than at home, I wrote about four new chapters, prepared a few others, and had some new ideas for the ending, thanks also to the inspiring environment, the lunches together with the fellow fellows, and the support I received. I will leave NIAS therefore with a sense of sorrow, but also with gratitude for what I learned here, especially the daily routine that I hope to maintain back home.
