My main task was to make a start with the second part of the biography of the sixteenth century Frisian statesman Viglius van Aytta (1507-1577), the sequel to my dissertation (1983). In this I succeeded well. I was able to write the first two chapters of this new book in which I describe Viglius’ first ten years in office as president of the Secret Council and the Council of State, the period 1549-1559. For the remaining eighteen years of Viglius’ life I need three other chapters, so that by now 40% (about 100 pages) of the book is written.
