Roland Posner, born in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1942. Ph.D. from the Technische Universität Berlin. Professor of Linguistics and Semiotics at the Technische Universität Berlin.

Fellow (1 September 1986 – 31 July 1987)

During my stay at NIAS, I worked on a book The semiotics of Culture. I wanted to find out which of the basic aspects of culture can be reconstructed on the basis of a theory of signs and sign processes. In the second half of the year I concentrated on the solution of epistemological problems which were posed by the editing of the proceedings of a conference on ‘Semiotics and Epistemology’.
