Yoko Nagazumi, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1930. Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. Professor of History at Josai University, Sakado.
Fellow (1 September 1992 – 30 June 1993)
During my stay in NIAS I participated in the research group “In Memoriam J.C.van Leur: On the 18th Century as a Category in Asian History”. I tried to analyse this period in the light of the emergence of individual company servants’ trade, which became increasingly prevalent in Indian Ocean and South China Sea, using both Japanese and Dutch source materials preserved in the General State Archives in the Hague. My second research topic was the shogunal orders of Amsterdam and Batavia almanacs.
