Chris Lorenz, born in Bandung, Indonesia, in 1950. Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Professor of Philosophy and Methodology of History at Leiden University.

I dedicated myself to a variety of projects during my time at the NIAS. In the first semester I devoted my attention mainly to my research on German historiography in general and the so-called ‘Historikerstreit’ in particular. In the second semester I spent most of my time on a book on philosophy of history. This book is a result of a discussion between several Dutch historians and philosophers on the philosophical foundations of history
