Uri Kupferschmidt, born in Montreux, Switzerland, in 1945. Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Associate Professor of Middle Eastern History at the University of Haifa.

During my year at NIAS I focused on the study of several aspects of religion and society in the Middle East, writing a large part of a monograph on the social roots of the Muslim Brotherhood and its later off-shoots in Egypt, Syria and the region of Palestine/Jordan.
