THE HINDU AND BUDDHIST TEMPLES OF CENTRAL JAVA: CHRONOLOGY AND INTERRELATIONSHIPS

I worked on an art historical study of the ornaments decorating the Hindu and Buddhist temple remains in Central Java (8th-10th century). The aim of this study is to establish relationships between Central Javanese temples, to arrive at a relative chronology, to relate this relative chronology to dates in inscriptions, and, on the basis of these dates and their interpretation, to propose an absolute chronology for the Central Javanese temples. The book will have eight chapters, and a number of appendices. My stay at NIAS has contributed immensely to rethink this project and to get the book half-way.
