Jungbluth, P.L.M.

Paul Jungbluth, born in Vaals, the Netherlands, in 1949. Ph.D. from Radboud University Nijmegen. Senior Researcher at the Institute for Applied Social Sciences (ITS) of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Fellow (1 September 1997 – 30 June 1998)

The basic aim of my NIAS Fellowship was concerned with the (re-)integration of and reflection on a number of research reports and results published over the last three years. They all addressed aspects of social and ethnic inequality in Dutch elementary schooling. It was useful and effective to elaborate on the concept of ‘opportunity structure’ as a leading principle to explain the actual practice of elementary education at various levels: that of the school, that of the teacher and ultimately that of the pupils.

Data and analyses to ground this conception are presented in a number of articles, prepared during my NIAS Fellowship.
