ANTHROPOLOGICAL DEMOGRAPHY: CULTURE AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH; QUALITATIVE AND ACTION RESEARCH

During my time at NIAS, in January-June 2009, I worked on a book on qualitative research, co-authored by Monique Hennink from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, and Ajay Bailey from the Population Research Centre at the University of Groningen. The book, for Sage Publishers, is based on 10 years of experience in training workshops for researchers and students in qualitative research from all over the world. Our approach to qualitative research is structured, expresses itself in the so-called Qualitative Research Cycle, and reflects the application of qualitative research in predominantly quantitative oriented disciplines such as demography and medical sciences. The book deals with the theoretical foundations, the application of qualitative methods and the analysis of qualitative data. It includes many examples and case studies of qualitative research projects conducted in Europe, Asia and Africa. The book will be published in spring 2010.
