TRANSLATING RENÉ DESCARTES

Most of the time I spent in NIAS was devoted to the translation in Dutch of a part of the complete works of the French philosopher René Descartes. In November 2010 the first volume of these works, edited by Boom in Amsterdam, was presented in the Maison Descartes, the French cultural institute in the Netherlands. The last of these eight volumes will be published around 2014. In NIAS I translated especially Dioptrique (Optics) and Météores (Meteorology), two of Descartes’ three Essays. Together with the translations of his Discours de la méthode and Géométrie these texts will constitute volume 3 of the complete works.
