During my year at NIAS, I was able to write six of the seven chapters of a book on sociology in France. Focused on the dynamics of scholarly networks in changing contexts, the book is based on a long-term view (1800-2000). It combines intellectual with social history, and on the basis of this particular case reflects on more general issues concerning the dynamics of disciplines and national and transnational traditions in the social sciences.
