My project was centred on three main items: 1) a historical survey of the notion ‘Decadence’, a term often used by artists and intellectuals during the 19th century; 2) the relation between this notion and the main currents of West European literature during the period 1850-1900; and 3) a study of some characteristic themes and motives of the so-called decadent literature.
