Gidley, G.M.

Mick Gidley, born in Southampton, UK, in 1941. Ph.D. from the University of Sussex, Falmer. Professor of American Literature at the Centre for American and Commonwealth Arts and Studies at the University of Exeter.

Fellow (1 September 1991 – 30 June 1992)

During the NIAS year I was relieved and pleased to be able to complete Edward S. Curtis and The North American Indian, Incorporated, a large study on which I have been working for many years. It also proved possible to edit a collection of essays, Representing Others: White Views of Indigenous Peoples, for which I wrote the introduction and a chapter. Some months were also given over to the editing of Modern American Culture: An Introduction
